A Day Without a Phone

Samedi matin, Lina se réveille et regarde son téléphone par habitude. Elle voit beaucoup de messages, mais elle décide de ne pas répondre tout de suite. Elle pose le téléphone dans un tiroir et ouvre la fenêtre. Il fait beau. Dans la rue, elle entend les oiseaux et les voitures. Elle prend son petit-déjeuner lentement, sans regarder d’écran.

English translation: On Saturday morning, Lina wakes up and looks at her phone out of habit. She sees many messages, but decides not to reply right away. She puts the phone in a drawer and opens the window. The weather is nice. She hears birds and cars in the street. She eats breakfast slowly, without looking at a screen.

Après le petit-déjeuner, Lina va au marché avec un sac en tissu. D’habitude, elle utilise une application pour trouver le chemin, mais aujourd’hui elle demande son chemin à une dame. Au marché, elle achète des tomates, du pain et des fraises. Elle parle avec le vendeur et découvre une petite boulangerie près de chez elle.

English translation: After breakfast, Lina goes to the market with a cloth bag. Usually, she uses an app to find the way, but today she asks a woman for directions. At the market, she buys tomatoes, bread, and strawberries. She talks with the seller and discovers a small bakery near her home.

L’après-midi, Lina retrouve son ami Hugo dans un parc. Ils font une promenade et jouent aux cartes sur un banc. Hugo est surpris de voir Lina sans téléphone. Ils parlent de leurs vacances, de leur travail et d’un nouveau film. Sans notifications, ils écoutent mieux et rient beaucoup. Le temps passe très vite.

English translation: In the afternoon, Lina meets her friend Hugo in a park. They take a walk and play cards on a bench. Hugo is surprised to see Lina without her phone. They talk about their holidays, their work, and a new film. Without notifications, they listen better and laugh a lot. Time passes very quickly.

Le soir, Lina reprend son téléphone. Elle a plusieurs messages, mais elle ne se sent pas obligée de répondre immédiatement. Elle pense à sa journée et se sent calme. Elle comprend qu’elle aime son téléphone, mais qu’elle n’a pas besoin de l’utiliser tout le temps. À partir de maintenant, elle veut garder une heure sans écran chaque jour.

English translation: In the evening, Lina picks up her phone again. She has several messages, but she does not feel obliged to reply immediately. She thinks about her day and feels calm. She understands that she likes her phone, but does not need to use it all the time. From now on, she wants to spend one hour without a screen every day.
